Framing Innocence: A Mother's Photographs, a Prosecutor's Zeal, and a Small Town's Response tells the story of...

Cynthia...a passionate photographer, particularly of her favorite subject: Nora. In the years since her daughter's birth, Cynthia had shot, cataloged, and stored in her cramped dining room more than 35,000 pictures. She hoped to someday publish a photojournalistic account of her family's life. But her most ardent mission was to give her daughter a photographic memory of her childhood.

Nora's childhood changed irrevocably one July day when a film-processing lab sent a roll of Cynthia's prints, including snapshots of Nora in the bathtub, to the police. When she had shot them, Cynthia hadn't thought twice about those pictures, which were a sequence of her daughter bathing and rinsing off with a handheld shower sprayer. The police and county prosecutors, however, looked at the pictures and saw a child performing a sexual act. They indicted Cynthia on two felony charges. Soon afterward, Children Services filed child endangerment charges against Cynthia, alleging that Nora was an abused child. Those leaps of the prosecutorial imagination launched Cynthia and her family into a legal ordeal that would consume one and a half years, cost $40,000, and send emotional aftershocks through their lives for a decade.

...When does a photograph of a naked child "cross the line"? What makes a photograph dangerous — the situation in which it is shot or the uses to which it might be put? Does context matter, or is a photograph a world sealed within its thin white frame? Who decides whether a picture is cute or lewd — the parent who shot it, or the prosecutor who has learned to look through the eyes of the perverts he prosecutes?

...a second Content Protection Retreat has been scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on February 6th and 7th...

The event will be open to 50 studios and will also include a virtual component where up to 20 studios can participate via videoconference. A registration fee will be required for all attendees in order to cover costs, as this is a non-sponsored event. As with the first CPR, all attendees will be screened to ensure there are no conflicts of interest and no media coverage of the event.

“Our goal is to empower studios through knowledge which enables them to implement a successful anti-piracy strategy and therefore make a major impact on piracy within the adult industry by 2012,” Vivas said. “The event will include the information, tools and resources necessary to position studios for a good start, as we know a successful strategy takes time to put into effect.”

The event will end with a cocktail event for both CPR1 and CPR2 attendees to continue to celebrate this important industry movement.

When I did a morning radio show in Denver, I met her dad and we had a great time together.  He's funny and energetic, and my opinion is:  his business is his, and her's is her's.

Court records obtained by E! News show that Montana Fishburne...was arrested last year for alleged prostitution and only avoided jail by signing up for a work-alternative program.

On March 19, Fishburne pleaded no contest in a Hollywood courtroom to criminal trespass, a misdemeanor, and the court agreed to drop charges of solicitation and loitering in a public area for the purpose of prostitution, according to court documents.

She was sentenced to two years' probation and 15 days in jail, but was able to do community service instead of jail time.

As part of her probation, Fishburne was also ordered to not charge (or attempt to charge) money for sex; have sex in a public place or a place "exposed to public view"; hitchhike or otherwise engage drivers in conversation; and loiter in alleys or public streets "with the intent to solicit acts of prostitution."

US Pole Dance Championship 2010

In the 1980s, I worked as a DJ in 7 topless bars...7 days a week, two clubs a day. The money was GREAT! We (the employees) had A LOT of fun...I do miss it. (Yeah...there was "drama", too. It was one of those situations where you take the good with the bad...)

I don't know what happened to the industry, but I noticed dancers quit "dancing"...they pose. And they don't (even pretend to try to) entertain. And they complain...to everyone, including the customers...when they don't make the money they feel they're entitled to. Remember you are no different than anyone else in the "entertainment" business: perform your art, and if there is enough of an audience for it, you might be able to earn a living from it. If you are failing at the business of entertainment, maybe you're not doing good business.

I'm ready for pole dancing to be an Olympic sport!...

9 to 5: Days in Porn, review

I received a "screener" before the DVD will be available to the public.

"...It’s a documentary that gives you an inside look into the world of porn by portraying the lives of 10 people from the industry that we spent over a year getting to know."

It was completed in July 2008 so, based on some time frames given throughout the documentary, I assume the filming began around January of 2007. (Keep that in mind as you read about the "newcomer" below...)

Most of the adult businesses are based in California in the San Fernando Valley...also known as "Porn Valley". Since the 1970s it has become the place from which most of the product available in the United States of America has roots. The documentary covers: the companies that produce pornography, the distributors of the product, the producers, the agents, the actors, and the directors.

A husband and wife who are both actors are followed, as well as some who are new to the business and those who have been around since the '70s.

I was very interested in what veterans of the industry had to say...their experiences, suggestions, etcetera...so that I can compare that with those who are currently in the business.

Sharon Mitchell was an adult actress for over twenty-five years, appeared in over two thousand movies, and performed as a dancer. After being attacked by a fan she became a Clinical Sexologist, obtained a doctorate in Human Sexuality, and is a certified counselor (specializing in STDs and Chemical Dependency). She also operates AIM Healthcare, a non-profit organization in Encino (California) that tests for STDs and provides counseling services for issues that are related to substance abuse.

Mitchell makes a point that those who participate in pornography are the misfits and renegades of society. (I agree. And believe that those who enjoy it probably can also wear those labels...)

Another veteran, Nina Hartley, gives her opinions about the business. And "newcomers" have their own opinions...

In this, Sasha Grey is "The Rookie": she began her career in 2006, and this documentary is being made before she became very popular and well known.

Her first agent, Mark Spiegler, is shown as he goes through his day of managing his talent; her at-the-time boyfriend...now fiance...Ian Cinnamon also expresses his thoughts and feelings.

Not surprising is that sisters have worked in the industry together, such as Mia and Ava Rose. To me they clearly love eachother, and Mia gains strength and feels comfortable having Ava around (when she was...you'll understand this comment when you see the scene I'm referring to).

I assume we all expect those who are related to this type of business will be discriminated against. But for someone to have their World of Warcraft account terminated shocked me! It appears to me that Blizzard/WoW was being nit-picky...after learning of her existance in their universe. (Porn stars need guilds, too...)

There's some conversation about the types of expectations that those who are inexeperienced in sexual activities (virgins, et alia) will have based on what they see in some productions. Will they consider what is seen as behavior(s) expected of them, and is considerd the norm? That's a good question.

Three major reasons are given that women work (as actresses) in the industry. As I remember, the reasons were given by Mitchell. I wish all participants in the documentary had been asked why they chose adult entertainment as a career...

There was mention of what actresses aren't warned about before they begin performing, and how some performers can be used and abused: used by agents, producers, etcetera. I wanted to know more about what had happened, and how they were swindled or taken advantage of. I'm sure others who might enter this field need to know this information, as well.

Working hard and planning financially for the future was mentioned, but not examined. Some idea is given about the amount of money that can be earned. But what I didn't learn about, that I'm very interested in, are those who properly managed their business for lifelong financial success:

How much did they make?

How often did they make certain amounts?

What did they do with the money after it had been received?

Who successfully provided for the future, and how did they do it?

If you've wondered what it's like to work in adult entertainment, or have thought about being in the business, this DVD is for you! There are very graphic scenarios, and they need to...and should...be included: the reality needs to be shown with no softening of the view.

Between segments music is played as if it's being broadcast on a radio station. KQDJ is the call sign that was given, but I believe it's fictional because I cannot find any information about it ever existing at the frequency that was announced.

As of the time of this posting, I did not find any information on their website about the music that was used, and where I can get more information on it. Maybe it will later be available...

The runtime is over 90 minutes.

AVN Novelty Expo

I attended CES and, while there, was offered the opportunity to attend the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo (AEE) ...which I did. Now, I'm receiving information about the upcoming AVN Novelty Expo in Los Angeles from July 13th through the 15th...which I've reviewed. (Hey, I don't have a "staff"...somebody's gotta do the research...)

As I did at the AVN AEE, being the gadget freak-boy that I am, I was looking for some items that would catch my interest...something kinda neat. So far I haven't seem much, but I did notice an "enhancing strap" from Sportsheets. What impressed me, as always, is that it's portable: it's not a pillow or a cushion. And, once again: "Why didn't I think of that?" The picture of the packaged product is at this link, and here is a picture of the product:

There is no nudity in the demonstration video, which can be found on their webpage of video clips...but you will want to consider it rated "R".

It fits in a backpack or briefcase! When she asks, "What's THAT for?..."

AEE and GayVN

After planning to attend the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), I was offered the opportunity to also go to the 2009 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo (AEE) and the GayVN Expo. CES was being held in the Las Vegas Convention Center, and the Sands Expo Center. Luckily, the AEE was also at the Sands.

I arrived at the Sands and saw signs that indicated to me that the AEE was on the first floor. My picture was being taken by photographers, whom I assumed found my afro of interest. I found an entrance and was shown where to go to get my press credentials. They were given to me on a lanyard, and I was warned to guard them very carefully: some apparently had been taken by those who would later try to get into the show.

I entered the show on the first floor of the Sands...and wondered if I was in the wrong place. "This can't be the AEE, can it? It looks and feels like a flea market..." There were vendors...small booths...items and services...but not the glitsy extravaganza I had expected to see. "Where are the babes? The chicks? Where's all the nakedness and debauchery I had come to expect and hope for?..."

One of the exhibitors that impressed me was the Lizette shoe accessory. I have seen women's heeled shoes that have lacing that tie up the calf...but this is just the lacing: it can be worn with almost any shoe! What a GREAT fashion idea! (Dammit...I had another "I wish I had thought of that" moment...)

After seeing what there was to see, thirty minutes after arriving, I left what I thought was the AEE and headed towards the second floor to see the portion of CES that was there. On the way out of the AEE section, there were more photographers taking pictures of me...and asking me to take pictures with them. Sometimes I believe I am a celebrity, but times like these remind me that it's really my hair...

After leaving the CES section, I realized that there were a lot of people out in the hallway. They didn't seem to be there for CES...they weren't going in and coming out. And, they were dressed as if "clubbin'" was the purpose. I was informed that AEE was in Exhibit Hall A...which, is where I had thought I had been. Exhibit Hall A was on the second floor, and down past the open doors of CES. It was amazing...and loud...and exciting. I had only been in for a minute, and I was being called over to have my picture taken with...someone. I don't know who he was...he wanted to show his associated that he wasn't the only one with long hair: he had his tied into a ponytail. (Whoever you are, I'd like a copy of that pic...)

Coming out of the AEE I found the warning I had received was valid: there were those complaining of having their credentials and passes stolen...snatched off of their lanyards. (I had gripped mine firmly, and once I was inside the AEE I placed it in the portfolio I was carrying.) I was being offered cash for mine (I declined to sell it).

There's much to see and show. Due to all that I was obligated to, with events being held at various locations throughout the city, and having limited transportation I was not able to see "everything" (as I like to). Because I had to leave town, I wasn't able to attend Internext Las Vegas 2009 (which began after CES and AEE). I hope next year I'll be able to cover everything with video cameras, and broadcast a lot from all of the shows. And, should they need a Master of Ceremonies (it wouldn't be my first time: I've been called "master" before)...
